NCC REPUBLIC DAY CAMP INAUGURATED (PIB 08-Jan-2001)

Shri Krishan Kant, Vice President of India has said that the youth today needs to be galvanised by a spirit of moral physical and spiritual regeneration to make India realise its destiny for greatness. He said in the new millennium the energies and spirit of adventure of the youth is required to be properly channalised towards national reconstruction and nation building.

Inaugurating the NCC Republic Day Camp here today Shri Krishan Kant said that NCC is a significant link between education and defence. It is an instrument of shaping the character of youth inculcating in them the values of service, discipline, camaraderie and hard work. Through diverse activities like, community development, youth exchange programmes, sports and adventure training, the NCC has been contributing immensely towards nation building and national integration, he said.

Shri Krishan Kant said that the NCC`s cadets have proved their mettle in times of national crisis and emergencies. It has been creditable. Your exemplary service during Orissa cyclone and during draught and floods in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal is fondly remembered by all. It is proof of your sense of commitment and duty and your national spirit, he added.

Shri Krishan Kant said that the NCC Republic Day Camp provides a unique and rare opportunity for you all, hailing from all parts of this vast and varied country, to meet, share notes, which is so important to help you rise above the insularities of regional feelings and develop a true national perspective.No nation can aspire to greatness unless its youth endows itself with a truly broad vision and catholic tolerance and understanding outlook.You must rise above all feelings of narrowness and insularity caste, creed, religion, region and language, to capture all of this wonderful country in your mind`s canvas. This is a debt you owe to your motherland, he said.
