Can anybody contribute to Vandemataram.com?
Sure! Absolutely! Totally! Yes.Top

What or where can I contribute?
In Channels, Vande Gallery, Vande Poems, Vande Stories, V-Greetings, Speak Out, Patriotic Songs etc.,Top

Do I have to use my real name to contribute?
If you'd like to be famous, yes. If you'd rather pen your words in anonymity/pen name, you are welcome to do so. But we would still like you to send us a bio of yours.Top

What kind of article should I write?
Topic is no bar. However, we do stress on a few things as far as articles are concerned. Some of you might think defining rules, criteria and guidelines goes against the objective of encouraging creativity. For a long time, we at Vandemataram.com thought so too. But after a lot of reader email and a lengthy discussion with current Vandemataram.com writers, we concluded that there is a big difference between creative writing and careless writing. The criteria and guidelines here are designed to nurture the former and nip the latter. We love writers who treat the written word with a certain respect. After much thought, we came up with the following three broad criteria for article contributions:

Originality: Originality could come in several forms: new ideas, new forms of expression, new perspectives and, of course, individual thoughts and feelings. Yet another article, for example, bemoaning the evils of the Indian political system doesn't an interesting read make. But an innovative, workable idea to fix them...yep, we'd kill for that. So, as the Apple Computer ad goes, think different.

Focus and Flow: Your readers would love you if you focus on one or a few points and express yourself concisely. Another virtue is 'flow' or continuity of thought. Abrupt shifts in narration annoy.

Care: It is crucially important for an author to edit his or her article closely to make it concise and to remove errors of spelling, punctuation and grammar. It is virtually impossible for us at Vandemataram.com to edit all articles. When the effort required is too much, the usual response is to decline the article. More importantly, errors take away attention from otherwise remarkable content. In other words, you would be improving the odds of acceptance dramatically if you edit your articles closely and carefully before emailing or submitting them to us. Please, do review our section on Writing Tips and Guidelines before you send us your contribution.Top

Can Vandemataram.com help me to avoid some common mistakes in writing?
Absolutely. We have prepared a document from the most commonly occurring errors in articles. This list of writing tips and guidelines should help you correct your own mistakes!Top

Great! Now what do I have to do to contribute an article?
All you have to do is send us your article typed in MSWord or TEXT and send it as an attachment to editor@Vandemataram.com. You can also cut and paste the article in the email and send it across to the same address.
These are the things you need to keep in mind before you send your contribution:

1. The article should be 900 words or more.

2. Make sure you have a title for your article (the title should not exceed 25 characters).

3. Please do make sure you have read the Tips and Guidelines

4. Check your article for spelling errors.Top

Are authors allowed to know who the reviewing editor was *grrr*?

No, we prefer to keep that information confidential.Top

How does Vandemataram.com select articles for publication?
We have a unique process of selection at Vandemataram.com to ensure a level of quality and diversity in the articles. Once you have sent in your article, it will be reviewed in-house. Whether your article is selected or rejected, you will be sent feedback -- of that you are assured. This process of reviewing takes between two to three weeks. Once your article has been accepted, it will be published between four to six weeks from the date it was accepted.Top

But I want to contribute a short article! Help!
If you have an article that is less than 650 words, then what you can do is, send us two articles with 600 words each. We will review both of them together and if selected, they will be published together.Top

I have pictures with my article. How do I send them to you?
Try not to send us pictures in MSWord. Send them as separate attachments with the email. The pictures should be either jpeg or gif files. Do send us appropriate captions and we insist that you label the captions according to the names of the files you have saved your pictures in. If you have particular preferences about where your pictures ought to be placed, then indicate that within your article (within brackets).Top

Can my article be published immediately?
There are exceptions to the reviewing process that we follow. If your article is time- sensitive and is well written, it will find its way on the Vandemataram.com homepage quicker.Top

How long does my article get to stay on Vandemataram.com links or pages?
We will try to maintain them as long as possible.Top

What happens then?
You will always find your article in the Vandemataram.com archives.Top

Will my article be edited before it is published?
Yes. Look at it this way -- when you read an article, would you rather read it with errors? The articles will be edited, however, the editing will not hamper your train of thought on paper. Editing simply means correcting punctuation, grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.Top

Will I get paid? Show me the money!
At this point, Vandemataram.com does not offer any monetary compensation to its contributors. You won't retire rich by being a Vandemataram.com contributor; however, there are several benefits to getting published on Vandemataram.com:

Exposure: Thousands from over all countries visit Vandemataram.com every day. Getting published or contributing to various forums on Vandemataram.com brings instant global exposure to you, your views and your writing skills. In order to be a columnist on Vandemataram.com you need to have published at least three articles on Vandemataram.com. After that we require that you send us a theme of the column you propose to introduce. It doesn't have to be a thesis document - only two lines. Also send us an appropriate title. This, with three sample articles in keeping with that theme constitute the requisites for your own little kingdom on Vandemataram.com. Top

Once you are on board as a columnist you will be required to send in one article every month. If you feel you can write more than one article in a month, we are open to discussion! But we have found that over a period of time, even one article a month is hard to keep up with. Top
