One parent asked the teacher, "Do you teach the students how to stitch, to cook or to wash? Do you teach them subjects which will make them self-reliant? Do you teach them how to behave with parents and elders? Do you teach them the teachings of Gita, Upanishads, etc.,? Do you infuse in them any virtues such as patience, perseverance, tolerance, forgiveness, compassion, etc., which will help them to live in society with co-operation? Do you show them the ways and means by which these qualities can be cultivated? "The answer to each of these questions was "No".

The drawback of our modern education is that it does not teach anything useful and what is necessary to make life happy and useful. On completing his education a student is unable to start life or to face sorrows and sufferings of the world. Life remains either a puzzle or a problem to him. Of what use is the education that does not teach the art of living? The teacher claims to be an expert in the science of education, but in fact he cannot infuse such education that would make a student a better member of the society or the family. Education at the Tapovana covered all the activities of life to make students self-reliant and happy.

Education is important.
