A wandering yogi, one day, reached the place of a king. The king invited the yogi to live with him and teach him yoga, Pranayama, meditation and all. The yogi agreed and started teaching him. He taught him for 15 days, and then asked the king to practise for a month and come back to the yogi's Ashram, for further instructions.

Six months passed away, there were no signs of the king . The yogi meanwhile had sent messages to the king, always getting replies of his wife not being well, the son not allowing him to go in his vacations, there may be attack from another country, etc. Ultimately the yogi had given up.

One fine day, the king sent a message to the yogi calling him to his palace. In answer to this the yogi ran to a tree, hugged it with both his arms, and started saying loudly "The tree is not leaving me, the tree is not leaving me, how can I come?"

The stunned messenger reported this incident to the king, whereupon the king immediately went running to the yogi and fell at his feet, and thanked him for waking him up. Thereafter he lived under the guidance of the yogi.
