Shri Krishna went in disguise to personally meet Jarasandh Shri Krishna bluntly said that the purpose was to kill him, since he was irreligious, deceitful, a mere pretender of devotion. Shri Krishna further told him that it is known that he wanted to perform Narmedh Yagna (capturing and killing 100 kings) for which he had already defeated and imprisoned 86 kings. He, therefore, had no right to be called a religious person. Shri Krishna then revealed his identity. Every time when Jarasandha's army was defeated, he had run away and hence Bhim and Arjun the two great warriors had come to fight a duel with him. Jarasandha was not a person to be cowed down by such threats. He accepted the challenge. A duel ensued between Bhima and Jarasandha. Jarasandha was killed after a fierce duel.

Shri Krishna was against Jarasandha because of his unethical behaviour. However he had no enmity towards his son or his soldiers. After the death of Jarasandha, his kingdom was given to his son. This action of Shri Krishna demonstrated the greatness of Vedic culture. He released 86 kings whom Jarasandha had imprisoned, on the assurance that they would make every effort to rule according to the principles of religion, and that they would accept the responsibility to protect their subjects so that they could live in peace and prosperity. Thus the strength of Pandavas became manifold. On the one hand, Jarasandha a powerful and an evil-minded enemy was destroyed and at the same time they received the support of 86 kings. Thus, the Pandavas under the guidance of Shri Krishna established the 'Dharma Rajya' on a large part of the country.

The greatness of Krishna. He wasn't after power but only justice. Welfare of everyone.
